What is your educational background?
I earned a Certificate of Leadership at uGuelph and a Honours Bachelor of Commerce Degree in Entrepreneurship from uOttawa. I earned both while playing varsity basketball between 2008-2013, and maintained an “A-” average to become an Academic All-Canadian.
What are your daily responsibilities?
Representing basketball players, musicians, models and actors involves wearing many different hats. Lots of emails and calls get sent out each day — both cold and warm for promotion purposes to teams or end-clients. We work with teams in the NBA G League, and overseas across Europe and Asia. Clients such as Nike, Adidas, Roots, Urban Planet, McDonalds, Shoppers, etc. One the music side, I can be coordinating features with artist managers (Lil Yachty and Sage The Gemini for instance), working on shows/festivals, or giving input on “day to day” creative decisions on mixing songs, artwork, feedback on verses, etc.
What hurdles did you face?
All the time — being an entrepreneur is one of the most exhaustive but exhilarating things anyone can do. It takes a toll mentally to put your all into something either full-time or part-time (some entrepreneurs work on building their business after they finish their day job) and to not see an immediate return on your investment; time investment and financial investment. The sports and entertainment industries are cut-throat and the “Agency Business” is very competitive. There are “proverbial fires” that we need to put our on a daily/weekly basis
